This April, Shimano will launch its new affordable component system, SHIMANO ESSA, which will be compatible with the bicycle component maker’s current 8-speed flat-bar ACERA, ALTUS and TOURNEY TX systems.

Engineered with the transformative Essence of Active concept, SHIMANO ESSA will elevate its existing 8-speed lineup. Versatile, robust, and designed to support an active cycling lifestyle, ESSA marks an exciting development in the range of accessible componentry and harmonizes an often-complex set of component groups. Shimano aims to simplify its product line-up for the next generation of cyclists.

ESSA - The Essence of Active

ESSA is ideal for a wide range of casual sport bikes, including MTB, fitness, and city bikes. The narrow / wide teeth profile will ensure reliable chain retention on the trail. The front single 8-speed gear range will boast a 400% wider gear range, with DYNAMIC CHAIN ENGAGEMENT ensuring excellent chain retention.

The compatibility with SHIMANO’s current 8-speed HYPERGLIDE systems will make life easier for bike retailers and cycling enthusiasts alike.

CUES SHORT REACH addition for SHIFTER and BRAKE LEVER

In 2023, Shimano launched the CUES 11/10/9-speed line-up, providing one solution across multiple cycling categories, including trekking and mountain biking. This year, Shimano expands the line-up to include an updated ergonomic design, optimized for riders with smaller hands; providing a specific solution for every type of bicycle and opening the door to a joyful new riding experience.

CUES expands diversity for every rider, offering a more readily accessible braking experience: bringing the brake lever 20% closer to the handlebar.

Front Hub and FREEHUB Series Renewal

Complementing the introduction of SHIMANO ESSA and the increased diversity now available for all riders using CUES, SHIMANO’s non-series front hubs and freehubs will be completely renewed across its 11/10/9/8-speed line-up. All non-series front hubs and FREEHUBS will be concentrated around a simple and easily understood line-up.

The sealing performance of the TC600, TC/QC500 series will include labyrinth and contact seal bearings - designed to endure extreme torque levels for aggressive trail riding. The QC400 series will feature contact seal bearings only, while the QC300 series retain the traditional cup and cone bearings.

Designed for reliable e-bike use, the FH600 and FH500 FREEHUBS with MICROSPLINE will be compatible with SHIMANO LINKGLIDE 11-speed hubs and can be easily upgraded from LINKGLIDE to HYPERGLIDE+ 12-speed—creating peace of mind for riders and bike mechanics when it comes to any after service maintenance of the hubs.
