Shimano displays new stopping power with Tiagra-grade hydraulic brakes

TIAGRA-grade disc brakes (BR-RS405) with hydraulic calipers were announced today, giving riders the option of four SHIMANO road disc brake models to choose from.

Following the release of ULTEGRA-grade and 105-grade disc brakes in 2015 and SORA-grade mechanical disc brakes in March 2016, SHIMANO has further extended its flat-mount dedicated road-based line up with new stopping power.

TIAGRA-grade BR-RS405 disc brakes sit under 105 and ULTEGRA level as dedicated products for road riding. Disc brakes give riders added confidence in wet weather, on long descents and in areas presenting hazards, so they make especially ideal companions for all types of active riding, an area where TIAGRA excels.

The BR-RS405 unit is designed with a flat mount brake caliper and a mechanical hydraulic shifting lever (ST-RS405). Completing the set is the SM-RT81-S/SS 140mm or 160mm rotor featuring Shimano’s ICE TECHNOLOGY cooling system, designed to dissipate heat and provide more braking power when you need it, as well as providing consistent braking performance in all weather conditions and with all rim types.

Shifting through TIAGRA’s 10 gears with the combined gear and brake unit is ergonomically pleasing for multiple hand sizes thanks to the smooth surface of the hood and the enclosed mechanism within. VIVID Index Shifting on the 10-speed shifting system equates to a light shifting effort with a defined click engagement, so you always know you’re in the right gear. Furthermore, the reach of the lever can be adjusted by up to 10mm, providing added comfort.

Shimano’s BR-RS405 brakes adopt the easy set up and maintenance technology used in Shimano’s other hydraulic brake units. With funnel bleeding you can cleanly and effectively service your hydraulic brakes at home or in the workshop.

Shimano’s TIAGRA-grade BR-RS405 hydraulic road disc brakes will be available from July 2016 onwards.
